Police in Basanti, South 24 Parganas, have arrested two people for secretly manufacturing firearms behind cloth and lace factories.
The weapons were being produced in a small house, while hundreds of women from the village came daily to do zari work. The Baruipur police station received a tip-off and subsequently raided the premises, discovering numerous firearms and weapons-making equipment.
The two men responsible for the illegal operation, Motalef and Zainal Molla, have been arrested. The police are now investigating possible connections with the Munger district of Bihar. The incident has caused a lot of sensation in the area.
